RíOrganized: A Kitchen with a Purpose for the Clements Family
Winter of 2019 came with devastating news for the Clements family. Kevin, a husband and father of three, had been diagnosed with lymphoma and leukemia and there was a long road ahead for the entire family. When our team heard the news and learned they were local to Southern California, we were so eager to help the best way we know how—organizing!
When I reached out to Jaqi, Kevin’s wife, she knew it was a sign. I immediately received a text containing a photo of her mom sitting inside of the pantry that had just collapsed. We knew it was time to get to work.
We focused on the pantry spaces, medicine cabinet and a designated area for Kevin’s plant-based foods. With a deep pantry, it was important that we maximized the space in a way that was both functional, accessible and most importantly, sustainable.
Part of this project was reworking the kitchen layout the family previously had in place. A wellness station over the coffee made perfect sense to streamline the family’s morning routine. This also allowed us to clear up counter space, which is always a bonus!
We also switched up where the kids’ dinnerware was going to live to make room for one dialed in cabinet for all of Kevin’s specialty foods. With everything feeling out of control in his life, we wanted to provide something (albeit small in comparison) that could help make his day a little bit better.
For those of you that have been around the RíOrganize journey for awhile—you know we love us our label maker! This was a major part of the project as labels helped bring all of the pieces together to take each space to its fullest potential. White font on black tape is a bold accent that is easily legible and beautiful to look at. You can find that tape here.
Wonderful Update!
We are thrilled to share that Kevin is now CANCER FREE after receiving a bone marrow transplant from his brother, Chris, earlier this year. All the love in the world to this beautiful family!
