Rí-Vamp: DIY JULY

Why go over-budget on a home renovation project when we can do some things ourselves?! We bring you DIY JULY…and August 😂. All the things about Ría’s Home Rí-Vamp that we chose to do on our own to save money and add a personal touch. Of course, we’ll share the step-by-steps to show you how to take projects like these into your own hands and get them done yourself, too!

The first thing Kirsten Lile told me about my house was that it needed more black. Who knew? That sounded scary to me at first, but apparently, you “want to have a piece of black somewhere in each space to act as an anchor when you have a lot of white and airiness in your home.”

That makes so much sense. Everything in my house is just floating! We’re going to use Sherwin Williams’ Black Magic to anchor 5 of our spaces.

1. FRONT DOOR

Kirsten noted how our front door has a beautiful arch frame and great design.

THE PROBLEM: The wood stain is dated and needs to go!

THE PLAN: Traditional black will update it and bring life to the front of our home.

2. STAIR BANISTERS

The main banister is the first thing you see when you walk in. The other is in the back of the kitchen.

THE PROBLEM: The wood stain draws your eye away from the beauty of our entryway and doesn’t match the style of the kitchen remodel.

THE PLAN: Carry through the modern look to draw the eye up the staircase right when you walk in the door, tying it through to the back of the house.

3. LANDING TABLE

The table sits on the lower landing of the staircase to serve as an entry table.

THE PROBLEM: The wood stain doesn’t match any of the other colors.

THE PLAN: Tie everything together and elevate the space!

4. DINING ROOM CHAIRS

There are four chairs in the dining room and we are in need of two end chairs.

THE PROBLEM: The chairs currently have a Western feel and don’t match the new style of this room.

THE PLAN: Bring black into the mix to anchor the space and pull the eye to the gold in the room.

5. PLAYROOM BOOKSHELF

The bookshelf is in the hallway at the front of the kid’s playroom.

THE PROBLEM: It blends in with everything upstairs and there is not enough contrast in the space.

THE PLAN: Anchoring this bookshelf will add contrast and interest to the room, catching the eye when you get up the stairs.
